Three 90 year-old people with sight loss who attend the Hill Street Wednesday club, Winnie, Vera and Tom were recently invited to afternoon tea with President Michael D. Higgins and his wife Sabina.
Vera told the President he was an honourable man and got a big hug and kiss on the cheek from him. Winnie told him how she was from Galway and he said that us Galway people need to stick together. They had photos, tea and a singalong. The President and his wife gave a speech about friendship. Our trio thought the President was very down to earth. Everyone in Áras an Uachtaráin were extremely helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. — Antoinette Morley, NCBI.
