Announcing an exciting workshop to explore the free NVDA Screen Reader!

In association with VICS, the Visually Impaired Computer Society we are delighted to announce details of a one-day workshop, aimed to introduce the free and open source screen reader NVDA. The workshop takes place at NCBI’s Training Centre, on Whitworth Road on Saturday June 9th, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

From its beginnings in 2006, NVDA is now used in over 120 countries and has been translated into more than 41 languages.
Using the power of NVDA means that blind people can continue to be active members of the digital society, enjoying access to a range of online services, as well as education and employment opportunities.

On the day you’ll learn about how NVDA has evolved, how to install and configure it and how it can be used with a wealth of applications for web browsing, email access, word processing and more.

The workshop will be delivered by Ronan McGuirk, an NVDA expert user and developer, with more than 30 years’ experience in software development. Ronan was the driving force behind the integration of the Irish language for speech and Braille into the NVDA screen reader, and he will talk more about this on the day.

This session is aimed at those with a good prior knowledge of windows and the Microsoft Office suite of applications, as well as a working knowledge of screen readers. It is ideal for someone who may wish to transition from another screen reader to NVDA, or who simply wants to find out how NVDA may integrate into their existing access solution.

Places are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. To reserve yours, please contact Stuart Lawler in NCBI by email to [email protected]
