#godark was trending last night, as photos of bloggers in blindfolds took over feeds and timelines for the kick off the National Council for the Blind of Ireland’s Dine in the Dark campaign.
Nervous giggles spread throughout Fade Street Social as the first participants of Dine in the Dark put on their blindfolds for last night’s preview event. It’s not often you see Fade Street customers touching their food, picking it up to examine and smell it and arguing with their companions about it before finally tasting it. But that’s all part of the Dine in the Dark experience.
Dine in the Dark is a week-long culinary celebration taking place nationwide from 6th to 13th November. It is a truly unique dining experience, with guests blind-folded throughout the meal. Without their sight to guide them, they experience taste, texture and flavour in a completely new and innovative way. Dine in the Dark is supported by the Restaurants Association of Ireland and the campaign will see 200 restaurants and 8,000 people #godark for sight loss this November.
Dine in the Dark aims to raise vital funds for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI), which provides life-enhancing services for people with sight loss. Chris White, CEO of NCBI, urges more restaurants to come on board to support the campaign.
“This is a really exciting week-long celebration and a unique opportunity to experience having a meal in your favourite restaurant under blindfold. Everything, from the sounds in the restaurant to the conversations at the table, is more intense. It’s also an opportunity for people to appreciate the gift of sight and to raise vital funds for NCBI’s work with children and adults with sight loss.”
Dine in the Dark Ireland is kindly sponsored by Novartis Ireland, New Ireland Assurance and Classic Drinks and supported by the Restaurants Association of Ireland.
Fade Street Social is giving customers a special preview by going dark next week on Monday 17th in its two restaurants – Fade Street Social The Restaurant and Gastro Bar. Also previewing on Tuesday 18th of November is neighbouring restaurant Brasserie Sixty6. You can make a reservation now at www.thetaste.ie.
