Prevalence of Sight Loss in Ireland

Summary: There are currently over 16,500 people using the services offered by the NCBI. Of this figure, more than half (58%) are over retirement age. People of working age, 18–65 years of age, amount to 34% and 8% of our service users are children up to the age of 17 years.

There are slightly more females than males using NCBI’s services.

The majority of people using NCBI’s services are not blind; in fact 95% have some useful vision.
