2nd October 2019, the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Carrie Ann Moran as its first ever Sustainability Manager to the NCBI growing retail chain.

Chris White, NCBI CEO said “with the drive for more environmentally friendly practices in the fashion industry taking hold, NCBI is proud to highlight how our chain of 115 shops selling quality preloved clothes and furniture is playing its part. Appointing Carrie Ann Moran enables us to improve and sustain our environmental credentials throughout all our shops. She comes with a wealth of retail experience specialising on sustainability and circular fashion particularly from her time in the Rediscovery Centre, Ballymun, Co.Dublin. It is a core message we want to share with the public that by donating and buying stock they too are contributing to the sustainability agenda.”

Already it is estimated that every year across NCBI stores, 2.9bn litres of water is saved, 6.36m kilograms of CO2 is saved and 90% of donations received are resold in turn averting up to 2.37m kilograms of clothing going to landfill.

“With the help of Carrie Ann Moran, the NCBI charity shops will continue to evolve and modernise prioritising and showcasing ways to advance sustainable fashion whilst simultaneously raising much needed funds to continue our frontline services to people with sight loss”, added Mr White.
