NCBI Calls on Cyclists to join Cycle of Light 2019

Thursday 15^th August 2019, the National Council for the Blind is delighted its Cycle of Light event is back for a third year. This popular fundraising event offers a unique night time cycle with a choice of two scenic routes along the stunning Dublin Bay to Sutton or Howth Head which spans either 25km or 35km.

This year our Cycle of Light Ambassador, Meteorologist and avid cyclist Joanna Donnelly said ‘I know first-hand the value of the work NCBI offers people who are blind or visually impaired. They literally shine a light in many people’s lives every day by offering information, guidance, support and courses and training. The Cycle of Light is very symbolic fundraising initiative promoting solidarity and understanding to the needs of those living with sight loss. It is a great opportunity for me to support this cause”.

Chris White CEO NCBI says “NCBI’s ‘Cycle of Light’ is back by popular demand as it offers participants the opportunity to ride into darkness with those who are blind or visually impaired. Shining a light for those living with sight loss and raising vital funds for NCBI’s rehabilitation and children services.”

NCBI’s services include emotional support and counselling, low vision solutions like magnifiers, assistive technology advice and training, rehabilitation training (including independent living skills and using a long cane), a large print, audio and Braille library. The organisation also has an online shop with lots of practical solutions.
