NCBI Workshop

As part of the series of training workshops geared towards staff working with children with a vision impairment, NCBI hosted a two day training programme on October 14th and 15th. The training was delivered by the world renowned Finnish pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr Lea Hyvarinen. The workshop was delivered to NCBI staff and other professionals with a special interest in working with children with vision impairments.

Dr Hyvarinen introduced participants to her work with infants and young children with multiple disabilities. She spoke of her pioneering work in the development of vision assessment tools (Lea Test System) and teaching materials to encourage the use of vision in young children. The feedback was very positive with participants finding the workshop extremely useful and stimulating. Dr. Hyvarinen will make a very welcome return to NCBI in July 2009 for further workshops and hopefully those who did not get an opportunity to hear her this time will get to do so next time around.
