Mrs Quin spreads her wings!
The news from the Mrs Quin’s shops is all positive this time. Outlets in Sligo and Mullingar are about to be opened as I write, while Virginia in Co Cavan is now in business. There will be official openings in all these shops later in the year.
A shop opening complete with speeches isn’t always a joyful occasion and the sun doesn’t always shine, but the Charleville shop in Co, Cork hosted a sunny, happy (and profitable) afternoon.
Area supervisor Anne Cronin had persuaded Cork hurling star Séan Óg O’hAlpin to cut the ribbon, and there couldn’t have been a more popular choice. Séan Óg must have got writer’ cramp from signing his name on hurleys, jerseys and odd bits of paper. He is clearly a hero with the under fives, as well as the over seventies!
Manager Margaret Hartnet and her helpers organised wine and cheese (all donated) and an official Cork GAA rug was raffled. Cork Football Manager Con Counihan and Chamber of Commerce President Jer Cott were present and everybody seemed to be having a great day.
P.S. The shop takings rose dramatically and the rain held off. Thanks to Anne Cronin and to Séan Óg for making this opening a special one. — Marjorie Quarton.
