NCBI Downloadable Audio Books

http://ncbi.lib.overdrive.com

The Library at NCBI is pleased to have launched the first collection of downloadable audio books in March 2010. This collection comprises of 100 new and classic audio titles. This new service offers current and new library members the opportunity to download audio books to their PC, or burn them to CDs.

Membership

Membership is free and it is open to any current or new NCBI service user. In order to avail of this service, you must obtain a User ID and a membership number from the Library. Once this has been established, the service user needs access to a computer linked to the internet. There are a couple of technical steps that the service user has to set up in order to begin downloading:

Step (1) –Download the free console
Step (2) – Create a folder on the desktop to store the audio files

Downloading an audio book is easy. The service user can select the title and then follow the simple procedural instructions for downloading.

The next phase

The downloadable audio book service is a starting point for a much larger project. Over the next few months, the NCBI Library will be in touch with Irish publishers to establish permissions to upload some of the Irish interest audio books that have been, and will be recorded at NCBI studios.

On a monthly basis new downloadable audio book titles will be made available. A message will be displayed on the NCBI website to inform that a new selection has been added to the current catalogue.
