Children Sing For Children

Release Date: Feb 15th, 2001

The National Council for the Blind of Ireland is proud to initiate its 70th Anniversary Celebrations this year with a gala concert in the National Concert Hall on Thursday 8 March.

Sponsored by TESCO IRELAND, ‘Children Sing For Children’ will welcome a number of children from the ‘Lets Go Singing Studio’ on stage to sing to raise funds for quality educational facilities for blind children in Ireland, in particular a new preschool and early learning centre in Clondalkin. Included in the programme are The Garda Siochana Band, soprano Kira Deegan, Kylemore College Student Orchestra and Kylemore College Singers. Also featured is blind pianist NCBI Senior Technician, Stuart Lawler.

It is hoped that members of the Irish Rugby Team will also join with the singers of the International Matches, The Dublin Welsh Male Voice Choir to end the concert on a high note with a medley of rugby songs. Produced by Irene Thompson and Maire Ledwith Butler, the TESCO IRELAND ‘Children Sing For Children’ concert series has been entertaining Irish audiences in the National Concert Hall for five years, however this is the first time NCBI has been involved. "We are delighted to be associated with such a prestigious and well loved event. Children Sing For Children is unique in its approach - drawing on the talent of our young hopefuls, hoping that they will in turn raise the essential funds for the quality education of blind children in Ireland" said NCBI Chief Executive Mr. Des Kenny. The National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) is a not-for-profit, voluntary organisation offering a nationwide service to over 6,000 adults and children annually experiencing problems with their sight.
