As Potter mania engulfs men, women and children all over Ireland the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) is delighted to announce that it will produce a Braille version of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which will be available on loan for its junior and adult members.
Lina Kouzi, Library and Media Services Manager with NCBI explained that the Scottish Braille Press will receive a copy of the book at 00:01 on Saturday 21st June and will start preparing a Braille version immediately. As soon as it is complete, NCBI will receive a copy for distribution to its many Potter fans, children and adults experiencing problems with their sight.
"We have been inundated with calls from our readers wanting to know when the Order of the Phoenix will be available and adding their names to our waiting list. They are just as excited as other Potter fans."
The Harry Potter series in Braille and tape has been a big hit with the library's young readers and is by far the most popular with them, followed closely by Jacqueline Wilson's children's storybooks in Braille, large print and tape.
The library, which has over 3,000 members, has access to 50,000 Braille, large print and taped copies of adult and junior books. Membership is free to people registered with NCBI, who receive books through the postal service, and can return them by freepost when they are finished with them.
