Get the Golfing Gear Ready for NCBI’s Holmpatrick Cup!

The National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) is inviting Ireland’s golfers to participate in this year’s Fundraising Holmpatrick Cup, the all-Ireland club Fourball challenge, in association with The Five Chefs of Fingal.

Running for 72 years, the Holmpatrick Cup is one of Ireland’s oldest national golf competitions and has raised over €250,000 for NCBI, which offers services to over 7,000 people with vision impairments in Ireland.

Terry Mc Coy, chef patron of The Red Bank, Skerries on behalf of his four chef colleagues stated, “We are delighted to sponsor this year’s event, due to the close association between the Holmpatrick family, NCBI, Fingal and Skerries in particular. This connection dates back to the 1930’s when Lady Holmpatrick presented a magnificent cup to create funds for a cause very special to her, The National Council for the Blind of Ireland.”

The tournament will begin with a men’s club Fourball competition in each of the participating clubs. Club winners will then go on to represent their club in county finals, with the winners contesting the four provincial finals, and the tournament coming to a spectacular end in the 36 hole final in the world famous St. Andrews Old and New courses in October.

Golf as a game was first played in the St. Andrews Old course over 600 years ago, and attracts thousands of golfers from around the world every year. The New course is a classic links course, which uses the natural features of the land to create a first class golfing challenge.

For an entry fee of only €10 per pair, this is a chance for every club in Ireland not only to avail of this wonderful opportunity and contribute to such a fantastic cause, but also to showcase its golfing talent on a national field.

Last year’s winners, Liam Rooney and Mark Monaghan from Seapoint Golf Club, Co. Louth did just that, defeating Cavan’s Slieve Russel Golf Club by a narrow margin of 38 to 37 in the finals on a glorious Saturday afternoon in Bordeaux in the South of France.

The Holmpatrick Cup Golf Challenge is approved by R & A for payment of expenses – RULE 4-2G RA/87/2004
