The census form is also available in large print and in 11 different languages, aside from English and Irish. Launching Census 2006 this week, An Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, praised the Central Statistics Office (CSO) for making the form available in accessible formats.
Every household in the country will receive a census form, which must be filled out on the day. The information contained in the form is strictly confidential and will be used to create statistics on life in Ireland.
As well as being able to establish Ireland’s population size, a number of different questions relating to households and individuals are asked in the census. This allows the CSO to find out things such as how people get to work, what sort of accommodation we live in, how many people are in each occupation group and lots more.
To receive the form in either Braille, audio or large print, contact the Central Statistics Office on 021 4535000 or LoCall 1890 313414. The audio and large print formats will also be available on www.cso.ie
