NCBI awareness day in Kilkenny

Release Date: Apr 24th, 2006

The National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) will hold an information day in the Ormonde Hotel, Kilkenny on Tuesday May 9th 2006 from 12pm to 6.30pm.

Information stands and talks will provide information on NCBI’s services, including independent living skills, NCBI’s national library and demonstrations on some of the technology and equipment that can make everyday tasks easier to carry out for people with low vision.

“The purpose of the awareness day is to let people know that NCBI can assist anyone who is experiencing difficulty with their eyesight. In fact, 82 per cent of people who access our services have some usable residual vision and, as well as providing practical help, NCBI’s community resource workers provide support and advice,” according to Anna Williams, Regional Manager for NCBI’s in the South East.

NCBI was established in 1931 and today, the organisation provides a range of services to almost 10,000 blind and vision impaired people living in Ireland. Services include the provision of mobility training, information and counselling, as well as employment and adaptive technology services to support independent living.

The awareness day is open to everyone and anyone requiring more information can contact the National Council for the Blind of Ireland’s South East office on 053 24342.
