Change to Eircom’s Special Directory Enquiry Service

The number for Eircom's free Special Directory Service is to change from 10 to 196, with effect from midnight Monday 1st October 2007. There will be no other changes to the service and existing personal identification numbers will still work.

Who can avail of the service:

This free directory enquiry service is only available to Eircom customers calling from a landline telephone.

How to use the service:

  • Dial 196.
  • Once you hear the recorded announcement press 0 and ask for the Special Enquiry Service.
  • The operator will ask you for your PIN number, your name, and the name and address of the person/company whose number you require.
  • It would be helpful if you had a means of recording the numbers close to hand. If for any reason, you are unable to make the call yourself, you can have somebody else do so on your behalf.
  • Charges will apply if you ask to be connected to the number directly.
