Kathy Sinnott, Independent MEP for Munster and vice president of the European Parliament Intergroup for Disabilities, today congratulated all those who helped to collect signatures since the launch of the campgaign last March. Kathy also expressed gratitude to all those who signed the Europe-wide petition in support of disability rights. "People have been working hard. The campaign now has 850,000 signatures of the required 1,000,000 and there is still time for people all over Europe to continue signing online at www.1million4disability.eu as the campaign is only short of another 150,000 signatures which have to be collected before the presentation of the petition on the 4th of October."
Most countries reached the required quota - Ireland is even two-thirds above it! The petition will be given to the President Barroso of the European Commission, President Poettering of the European Parliament, as well as the European Council Presidency on 4th of October.
