RTE to show Audio Described Series of About The House

Release Date: Jun 13th, 2008

RTE in conjunction with NCBI, working for people with sight loss, announce the launch of the audio described series About The House, which will be aired on Sunday June 15th at 9.45am.

About The House is a building, architectural and renovation series presented by Duncan Stewart and Angie O'Brien and produced by Earth Horizon Productions.

NCBI were delighted to work with RTE on this series to make it fully accessible, through audio description, to people who are blind or vision impaired.

What is Audio Description?

Audio description is the narration of the visual content of a programme. It describes anything visual such as plot elements, actions, scenery and body language. It enables people who are blind or vision impaired to follow the storyline.

The last audio described About The House programme was broadcast by RTE in 2006 which was the very first audio described program to be aired on RTE. This series will hopefully pave the way for other documentaries and programmes to be produced in audio described format.

When is it on?

The program will be broadcast on RTE 1 on Sunday mornings at 9.45am. The series will run for 11 weeks, with the first episode being broadcast on Sunday, June 15th 2008.
