"Life changes fast. Life changes in the instant. You sit down to dinner and life as you know it ends."

The Year of Magical Thinking, adapted for the stage by Joan Didion from her best-selling memoir of the same name, chronicles the aftermath of her husband's sudden death. Capturing the compassion, humour and bewilderment of a fiercely intelligent woman whose world lurches suddenly from the ordinary to the unimaginable, The Year of Magical Thinking is a love letter to a child and a tribute to an extraordinary, unconventional marriage, told with raw candour and a brilliant storyteller’s gift for the absurd.

Following a sell-out run on Broadway and at the National Theatre London, one of the world’s greatest living actresses, the Academy and Tony Award winner Vanessa Redgrave, returns to Dublin in an exquisite production directed by renowned playwright and director, David Hare.

“Vanessa Redgrave is the reason The Year of Magical Thinking is not only the hottest ticket in town, but also the theatrical event of the season... that the audience is rapt is an understatement.” The Observer

Vanessa Redgrave’s visit to Dublin to perform Joan Didion’s towering testament to the emotional and intellectual consequences of grief is a major highlight of the cultural year.
