Dublin City Council’s Let’s Walk & Talk initiative comprises weekly walking groups, historical tours and other special walks and events. To mark Social Inclusion Week, Dublin City Council is joining forces with the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI) and National League of the Blind Walking Group for an historical walking tour on Tuesday 21st April at 7pm.
The tour, “Aristocrats And Dockers”, with historian, Pat Liddy, will explore a part of Dublin that once was at the edge of the sea and was the playground for aristocrats but later developed into a 19th century industrial zone and area with great poverty. This event is also being run as part of the Five Lamps Arts Festival 2009 for a dual celebration!
Just prior to the walking tour, there will also be an opportunity for all to visit the nearby Church of St. Agatha (North William Street, Dublin 1), where Fr. Brian Lawless has kindly offered to give us a tour.
The group, which includes both sighted and vision impaired participants, will meet at 6pm at the Church of St. Agatha, North William Street, Dublin 1. The tour of the church will finish in time for the “Aristocrats and Dockers” tour, which starts from The Five Lamps on North Strand in Dublin 1 at 7pm. The tour will finish at Connolly Station, Amiens Street, Dublin 1.
