At a packed and tense City West Hotel last week, entrepreneur Seán ‘The Dragon’ Gallagher took the RTÉ Charity Lords Of The Ring title on a spilt decision from Paul ’Showbiz’ Martin. After two weeks of intensive training at boot camp and three gruelling bouts, the Cavan native emerged victorious leaving losing finalist Paul Martin to reflect on what might have been.
Seán’s victory sees his chosen charity the National Council for the Blind of Ireland benefit to the tune of €17,000 with over €100,000 being raised in total for the participants’ charities with the help of Sona Vitamins’ sponsorship of the show.

National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI), Chief Executive Des Kenny expressed his gratitude to Seán for choosing to box in aid of the charity. “We are absolutely delighted with Seán’s win. He faced a very tough fight but his weeks of hard work paid off and the money he has raised will make a very real difference to our work. Seán has also become an inspiring role model to other people who may be experiencing difficulties with their eyesight.”

Presented by Lucy Kennedy and boxing legend Barry McGuigan, the four-part week-long series followed 11 well known personalities on an emotional journey as they prepared physically and mentally for the challenge of their lives, all in the name of charity.

Ex-footballer Lee Sharpe, comedian Alan Shortt, Fair City star MacLean Burke, TV presenter John McGuire, Dragon’s Den entrepreneur Seán Gallagher, journalist Joe O’Shea, former GAA star Jack Sheedy, journalist Paul Martin, RTÉ Young People’s presenter Rob Ross, ex-Big Brother star Ray Shah and UK Apprentice star Ben Clarke all put their bodies on the line in the name of their chosen charities in RTÉ’s Charity Lords Of The Ring.
