A unique Crafts Fair will take place in beautiful Kinvara on Saturday 12th April 2008 in aid of NCBI (National Council for the Blind of Ireland).

As well as providing an opportunity to buy beautiful craft pieces, there will also be demonstrations of various crafts like glass painting, stained glass, stone carving, spinning, printing, pottery, enamelling.

Many of the pieces sold on the day have been donated by artists and artisans, with some being created especially for the occasion in local workshops which took place in February and March.

The fair has been organised by adopted local woman Andrea Lippert, originally from Germany but living in Ireland since 2003. Andrea is a stained glass artist, picture framer and designer.

“I am inspired by the human ability to create beautiful things that brighten up our lives. We all have that ability in one way or another, so why not support each other in our creativity? Colour, light and shape have always been very important in my life. I feel very lucky to have attained all my skills and to be good at what I love to do. Stained glass design is certainly a visual craft, and that is how I became inspired to help people to be creative who can not use their vision,” explained Andrea.

Des Kenny, Chief Executive of NCBI, welcomed any encouragement for people to become involved in the arts. “This craft fair shows just how much talent there is out there in areas like this. Art, sculpture and other crafts are not only the domain of sighted people and at NCBI we try to encourage people to continue with the things they enjoyed before sight loss became an issue.”

Admission is free and all are welcome. The Craft Fair will take place in Johnston’s Hostel, Kinvara, Co. Galway on Saturday 12th April 2008 from 11am to 6pm. All proceeds from the fair will go to support the work of NCBI. A big thank you to local businesses and supporters for their help in putting the craft fair together.
