AMD Awareness Week 2010

Date:
Sunday, 19 September, 2010 to Saturday, 25 September, 2010

AMD Awareness Week 2010 takes place from Monday 20th – Sunday 26th September, supported by NCBI (National Council for the Blind of Ireland), Fighting Blindness, the Irish College of Ophthalmologists (ICO) and the Association of Optometrists Ireland (AOI), in association with Novartis. This year, RTE’s Mary Kennedy is also working with the AMD Awareness partners to help encourage Irish people to look after their eye health.

Throughout AMD Awareness Week, free testing will be available to detect the early signs of AMD at a range of public locations nationwide. The test to detect the early signs of AMD can be carried out by local opticians/optometrists and it normally takes place as part of a routine eye examination. It is simple, quick, non invasive and gives an immediate result.

You can find local participating opticians at www.optometrists.ie A mobile testing and information unit will also be offered at national libraries and clubs in the following locations: Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Waterford, Cork, over the duration of the week. A list of specific venues will be shortly available on www.amd.ie
