Minister for the Arts, Sport and Tourism, John O’Donoghue TD, today announced that the Kerry Tenors are to perform for one night only at Liberty Hall on April 10th in support of the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI).
The Kerry Tenors, brothers John, Stephen and Reggie McCrohan, have just been invited to sing for President George Bush and An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in the White House on St. Patrick’s Day and will be travelling to Washington next week.
At the launch of the concert, Mr O’Donoghue stated: “This concert in Liberty Hall promises to be a great night out and a chance to raise funds for a very worthy cause. NCBI provides vital services to more than 10,000 people in Ireland who are experiencing difficulty with their eyesight.”
The event has been organised by twin sisters Mary and Nora O’Sullivan from Caherciveen in Co. Kerry, to mark their 50th birthday on 10th April. “As we are celebrating a special birthday this year, Nora and I decided that we’d like to organise a concert to raise awareness and funds for NCBI, which will be celebrating its 75th anniversary later this year”, said Mary O’Sullivan.
Eamon Duffy, NCBI’s Fundraising Manager, thanked all those involved in putting the concert together and appealed for people to support the event. “I want to thank the Minister for his support and of course the O’Sullivan sisters for all their hard work. Tickets are now on sale and it’s sure to be a very enjoyable night out.”
NCBI is a not-for-profit charitable organisation which offers support and services nationwide to people experiencing difficulty with their eyesight. 2006 is NCBI's 75th anniversary year, having been established in 1931 to promote the full independence of blind and vision impaired people and to minimise the disabling effects of sight loss. 82% of people who use NCBI’s services have some useable sight, while 18% are completely blind.
Tickets, which include a buffet, cost €60 and are available from the Liberty Hall Booking Office on 01 872 1122. www.centralticketbureau.com. A prize draw will be held during the interval.
