Talking books

Summary: The library stocks thousands of talking books for both adults and children.

We lend both two track and four track cassettes. A two track cassette is like any that you would find in the shops, while four track cassettes hold much more information and are more suitable for longer books. Four track tapes require a different cassette player, which we can lend you and will be sent
with your first order.

Books are read onto tape by professional readers

If we don’t have an audio book in our collection, we can borrow it from another library overseas. The library has access to over 250,000 audio titles from libraries around the world.

Borrowing talking books

To borrow a book, please call us so that we can send you an order form in the post. You can then list the talking books you would like to read. When we receive your completed form, all your selections will be stored on our computerised system.

We will then send you one of your chosen talking books in the post, along with a 4-track tape player. You can return by simply reversing the address label on the package and putting it back in the post, free of charge. Once we’ve received your book, we will send you another one from your list.
