Trip to Tipp raises the bar for NCBI

One of the most popular charity sporting events in Tipperary has raised a whopping €24,100 for the National Council for the Blind of Ireland.

‘Trip to Tipp’, now in it’s 22nd year, and dedicated to the memory of the late Lorraine Shanahan this year, is a well established fixture in the sporting calendar.

Chief organiser Billy Shanahan says the “The 2017 ‘Trip to Tipp’ couldn’t have gone better. It is a great event and I love organising it every year. I have a super team around me and we all put our shoulders to the wheel. We got huge support from the people in our local community and there was a groundswell of help and goodwill. There was a great atmosphere on the day and people were buzzing with the various challenges. It is a family day and a great community day, everybody rallies together. People know that the NCBI does incredible work and so they are very happy to be involved with the event ”.

CEO of NCBI, Chris White, praised Billy and all the organisers of the event saying “They are an incredible bunch of people and we take our hats off to them for the amount of work they do on our behalf . In order to continue providing vital services to people who are blind or vision impaired we need the funds that events like ‘Trip to Tipp’ bring in. I would also like to mention Brendan Shields who raised an amazing €10,250 for NCBI by his participation in the event. Brendan worked hard, collecting funds for NCBI from early July through to the event on October 1st”.

For his part Brendan said “I was delighted to take part. The NCBI are a truly super charity. I would like to thank my work colleagues, management and customers of Dunnes Stores and all the people of Thurles who sponsored me . Here’s to next year!”
