How to enable and disable the Touchpad

A person's two hands are on a laptop touch pad and on the space bar of the keyboard

If you are a screen reader user on a laptop you may have come across occasions that your cursor has unexpectedly jumped from the application you are working on to another window. This can be due to an over sensitive mouse touchpad. But the good news is the touchpad can be easily disabled in Settings.

What to do

1. Press the Windows key usually positioned near the bottom left of your laptop keyboard.
2. Type in touchpad and you should hear touchpad settings been announced, press enter.
3. Press spacebar to toggle it off.

If you decide to leave it on, you can tab to touchpad sensitivity and reduce it to low from medium or high.

After you have made your changes press Alt +F4 to close Settings. Now you can type with confidence and without the frustration of your cursor jumping to an unexpected location.
