In iOS 16 Apple has added the ability to end a call with Siri.

This is a good feature for users that find hanging up using a touch screen difficult or others just like to do some of their calls hands-free. Note this only works on iPhone 11 and newer devices. It will work with older phones down to the iPhone SE if used with a pair of AirPods, AirPods Pro, or Beats headphones.

For this to work you have to enable the feature in settings

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to Accessibility
  3. Go down to under General and tap Siri

In here look for call hang up, it’s at the bottom, turn it on. So, if you are on a phone call or a face time call you can say “hey Siri end call”. Note the person at the other end will hear you saying the command before you hang up.

While we are on the subject of using the iPhone hands free here is a couple more Siri commands:

One useful command if you want to use your iPhone hands free is, “hey Siri, make a speaker Call to Mary”. Your iPhone will make a call using the loudspeaker.

You can even answer calls with Siri, for example say “hey Siri answer call”. There is another option out there for people who find it difficult to answer calls on a touch screen, it is called Auto answer and can be found in Settings>Accessibility>Touch>Call Audio Routing>Auto-Answer Calls>On. This is a last resort as sometimes it is not all calls that we would like to answer.
