NCBI relocates to new premises in Carrickmacross

Thursday, 22nd September 2022 – NCBI (National Council for the Blind of Ireland) is delighted to relocate its retail store to a new larger premises on 77 Main Street, Carrickmacross, Co.Monaghan which boasts a new, modernised look and feel, supported by a sustainable fit-out.

The NCBI Carrickmacross team was delighted to welcome Carmel Hill, a local NCBI service user to cut the ribbon opening the store to the public on Thursday morning. Speaking at the event, Carmel Hill, Monaghan-based NCBI service user said: “I have really benefited from NCBI services in the recent past as my eyesight has deteriorated. They have helped me adjust and adapt by offering me mobility training and technology support. I have regained my confidence and independence as a result.”

Stephanie Farrell, Regional Manager for NCBI Carrickmacross commented: “We were delighted to have Carmel involved in opening our beautiful new location in the town. The services that Carmel spoke about are important to her and other service users in Monaghan and around Ireland. By supporting our new store here in Carrickmacross, members of the public will help Carmel and others to continue to build their resilience and independence.”

Beverley Scallan, Head of Retail at NCBI said: “Our new NCBI Carrickmacross store is the latest in our network of 130 stores to challenge perceptions of what a charity shop should look like as it boasts our new, sustainable fit-out. By supporting NCBI stores you will not only help NCBI service users, but you will save items from reaching landfill which directly contributes to our goal to be as environmentally friendly as possible.”

Although the look inside NCBI shops is changing, a shopper’s ability to bag a bargain or find a hidden gem certainly will not. Donations will also be gratefully accepted at Carrickmacross or any other NCBI shop around Ireland.
