Rally driving legend Rosemary Smith is as much known for her stylish glamorous looks as for her steel and skill on the racetracks of the world.

Tall, willowy and chic she is a stylist’s dream but today she has revealed just where she buys her lovely outfits saying that for her , charity shops are the answer.

She was taking part in an NCBI(National Council for the Blind of Ireland ) Fashion Makeover, which took place at the charities’ shop on the Crumlin Road in Dublin where she was decked out in several smart outfits , all costing less than €50 for the whole ensemble.

“I love charity shops. I am always in and out of them. I love having a good rummage and I get a great kick out of picking up a good old bargain. A huge amount of the stock at the NCBI shops is brand new , so look it’s common sense to go in and grab a bargain”.

Like so many other devotees of charity shops Rosemary says “I visit regularly and that to me is the key. You get the most fabulous items at fabulously low prices, it’s the sensible thing to do. I have picked up the most amazing pieces over the years and people always compliment me on them .Also given the cost of the items you can afford to ring the changes often. It’s recycling at its best. There’s no downside, everybody wins”.

Happily donning the lovely pieces she modelled on the day, Rosemary was delighted with her own  NCBI purchases  , a Hobbs jacket and Millie blouse, both priced at just a fraction of their original cost.

“ I just fell in love with these pieces . They’re my style and I will get so much wear out of them. I’ll be back and bring some friends too!”

She said she is very conscious of the fact that the money spent in the NCBI’s 98 shops nationwide plays a vital and integral part in the organisations fundraising efforts.

“As our population ages more and more pressure is being put on the NCBI’s services so we can all play our small part by shopping in their wonderful shops all over the country”.

The National Sight Loss organisation is the second biggest charity shop chain in the country with an impressive 98 shops offering clothes, accessories, bric a brac and furniture.

Rosemary Smith will be in attendance at the Des Cullen NCBI Vintage Car Show, St Columba’s College, Rathfarnham, 24th June.
