NCBI & Junk Kouture Collaboration

Junk Kouture & NCBI – a collaboration during 2022-2023 Competition Cycle

Junk Kouture was founded in Ireland in 2010. It has since grown into a global competition with a presence in the USA, UK, France, Italy, and the UAE. Junk Kouture is the world’s largest sustainable fashion competition that challenges young talented creatives between 13-18 years old to make striking and imaginative outfits out of 100% recyclable materials each year!

NCBI, as a sustainability and recycling champion, is delighted to partner with Junk Kouture for the 2022-2023 competition cycle in Ireland starting this September to share knowledge and materials with participating students. The school programme features elements of entrepreneurship, design, engineering, and performance whilst equipping young people with problem-solving, team building, leadership, and innovation skills. With over 3,000 annual participants from Ireland, the programme’s popularity continues to grow year on year. The collaboration between Junk Kouture & NCBI will feature various activities throughout the academic year allowing Junk Kouture designers and alumni to get involved in showcasing their recycled couture designs to their local community and to the wider Junk Kouture community online.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Culture Night 2022

Fri 23rd September

Celebrating all that makes up the richness and diversity of Culture in Ireland today, connecting people to cultural activities locally and nationally, and aims to open up pathways to ongoing engagement.

An annual, all-island public event that takes place each year on the third Friday of September, Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir celebrates culture, creativity, and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured, and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day.

To celebrate Culture Night, Junk Kouture alumni from across the country have teamed up with their local NCBI stores for a two-week window takeover from Sept 21st – Oct 3rd, a celebration of creativity, design, and sustainability. Why not visit your local NCBI store on Sep 23 and check out the incredible creations? In addition, students will learn about sustainability, fast fashion, and the charity shops’ role in protecting the planet. NCBI will host a material collection day at their warehouse in Naas, this October. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about sustainability, circular fashion, how to invest in a wardrobe instead of impulse buying, and take home some materials for use in their Junk Kouture designs. Read more about sustainability here.
