Government supports for employers

If you are concerned that hiring people with sight loss might cause an additional financial burden on your company, don’t worry! Private sector employers who employ workers with a disability might be eligible to receive support from the Department of Social Protection (DSP).

There is the Wage Subsidy Scheme (WSS), which is granted to the employer in case a disability restricts an employee’s productivity compared to other staff.

The Employee Retention Grant Scheme is a funding to assist employers to retain employees who acquire an illness, condition or impairment which impacts on their ability to carry out their job.

The Workplace Equipment Adaptation Grant (WEAG) can help private sector employers to cover the cost of making their workplace more accessible or adapting it for staff with disabilities.

The Disability Awareness Support Scheme ensures financial support for employers in the private sector who provide or intend to provide disability training for their staff. This is valuable not only in cases when you have employees with a disability, but also to provide the best service to clients or customers that have disabilities.
